The Henry Choral club presents the comic operetta Bulbul at the Opera House on Friday evening Feb 16. The story follows Bulbul who refuses a prince and plans to wed a beggar pedlar with allies disguising as peddlers in a palace caper.
J Barry Co announces razing of the current Schick Building except side brick walls to construct a 40 by 80 foot modern showroom shop and office complex on Edward Street. Remodeling starts March first with completion targeted by April first under contractor H W Wombacher. the new layout features a glass front to showcase cars and separate sales and repair areas.
Henry council hears Fire Committee plea for a gasoline hose wagon to replace horse drawn equipment. They warn future fires and rising property risk if protection lags and appoint a committee to compare wagon makes and costs.
At the Commercial club room Henry painters carpenters and masons adopted a new wage scale to take effect March 1. The plan includes 40 cents per hour for experienced trades, 35 cents for unskilled, plus transportation and board costs. Contractors agreed to pay travel time one way and limit small contracts. Henry high school beat Sparland 18 to 15 in basketball while the Henry girls lost to Sparland amid accidents and interruptions.
Sunday school starts 9 45 with Mrs Wheeler as superintendent. Public worship 11 45. Fifth anniversary of the Friend's Aid Society at 7 50 with Rev W R Wiley preaching. Epworth League 6 30. prayer meeting Thursday. Woman's Foreign Missionary Society sub district convention contributed reports and talks. Edith M Bell spoke on Rhodesia missions and Kaffirs, with 60 000 bricks and new buildings promised. Bank offering about 39. Rea W Martin pastor. Week services announced including Child Labor in America.
George Burt & Son warns Republican subscribers about arrears and nonpayment. The notice states laws prevent keeping delinquents over a year and urges paying up, with a spring incentive of $1.50 for one year in advance if paid by March 1. Readers urged to check labels and update records.
The Christian Church schedules Sunday morning services at Henry with a sermon on The Temptation of Jesus and an evening talk on Putting on the Whole Armor at Putnam. Special music accompanies both. Holy Communion at 7:30 a.m. and 9:46 a.m. Sunday school at 9:46, Matins and sermon at 11, and 7:40 p.m. prayer and sermon by F W Haist. Rev Fr Andrew Schauer oversees weekday and Saturday services with high mass and German sermon at 10, benediction at 2:30 p.m.
St Joseph Church lists mass schedule with a first mass at 8 a m and a second mass at 10 a m on Sunday and a 7 30 a m weekday mass led by Rev M J Brennan. An open Parent-Teacher Association meeting is set for next Tuesday evening February 18 at 7 50 in the school building with an invitation to the Board of Education and city residents. A program includes America audience invocation piano solo reading founder's day vocal solo and a talk on the education of his children by Dr Zemewe Murphy.
