Captain Wallace Wins Damages in U S Court Over Canal Sinking
Captain W H Wallace owner of a fleet of canal boats sued the Sanitary District for damages after the steamer Bryan sank in the drainage canal near Joliet Bridge when struck by a boulder during dredging. The case, tried April 12 before Judge Bethea, awarded damages with amount to be fixed later by a commission.

Leo Joyce son of Amasy Joyce of St Louis and grandson of John Joyce was taken to Lacon and after a hearing before Judge Gregg sentenced to the Reform atory at Pontiac. He is 13 years old and has been headstrong and truant, living with grandparents then parents. He ran away, smoked cigarettes, and refused to obey. Despite schooling efforts and truant officers, he remained unruly. His mother came to Henry. the family sent him to Pontiac for reform and possible salvation.

Mrs Daisy Morgan Huff of Denver Colorado says she leaves for the Philippine Islands on the 21st to sail from San Francisco aboard the U S transport Sherman which departs at noon May 1. The Henry Republican will follow as a third copy for the Orient while two copies go to missionaries in China. Her Manila address will be care of Division Headquarters U S Army. Mr Huff has a government appointment in the far east which he has accepted.

Death on Rock Island Train Strikes Rosa Rufner
Mrs Rosa Rufner of Kingley Iowa died instantly on a Rock Island noon train between Chillicothe and Peoria while visiting her sister Mrs Glaze. Passengers and a physician could not save her as the train sped to Peoria. an inquest was held in Peoria.
