The Henry electric plant changes ownership this week to J H Crickenberger and W H Casselberry of Nokomis. Crickenberger, VP of Farmers National Bank, will manage Henry plant. Casselberry remains at Nokomis to oversee local interests. Plant opened Jan 1 1898, survived a 1895 fire with no insurance, now under new management expected to continue strong service.

Old Man Dies in Fire After Drinking Spree in Bureau County
John Walsh a 70 year old Bureau Junction resident and Civil War veteran died when his house burned Saturday night. Neighbors heard him arguing and smoking a pipe before flames destroyed the home. Walsh's daughter Mrs J A Morgan of Chicago attended the Monday funeral.

Saved From Drowning by Narrow Escape at Goose Pond
Dr. C. P. Lovejoy state veterinarian had a near fatal drowning experience at Goose Pond on Wednesday afternoon. His boat capsized while decoys floated away. hunters nearby saw him cling to the upside down boat and, with help, dragged him to shore unconscious. Fire and hot blankets restored consciousness at Irad Long’s home before emergency aid arrived.

Explosion Threat Made By Gas On Fred Swain
Swain, engineer of the Peoria La Salle Packet Fred Swain, sparked a match to locate escaping gas aboard as the boat backed toward the stock yards. The ignition caused a near disaster with Swain slightly burned and the vessel endangered. The river near Peoria is described as stagnant with refuse, creating hazardous gas pockets in the hold. The captain said the Fred Swain will avoid that landing until river sanitation improves.
