Dissolve vote ends bookmobile service in Illinois Valley district

Mrs August Larson formerly of Magnolia died shortly after midnight Tuesday at her Cornell Illinois home after weeks of illness. Funeral services will be Thursday at 3 p m at Magnolia Methodist Church with Rev Nothdurft officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia cemetery. Survived by husband August daughter Mrs Gertrude Donoho Magnolia and sons Virgil Leonard at home. one son Wilmer preceded in death three years ago. Kraus Properties Bring Good Prices At Public Auction

Public auction of the late Mrs. Joseph Kraus estate, conducted by administrator Lawrence Bickerman, sold multiple parcels. Mamie Martin bought the Market Street home for 3200, George Bickerman purchased two Second and Market street houses for 2425 each, Oxar H. Davis paid 1500 for the Edward Street barber shop site, with possession to July 1, 1950. Walter Overbeck acted as attorney for the estate.

Roy Miller Buys Golden Gate Bridge on California Trip

Roy Miller, a Henry township supervisor and insurance agent, travels in California reportedly closing a major deal. A telegram to Dayne Farr asked for $5,000 to be wired for the purchase of the Golden Gate Bridge at San Francisco. A follow up request said the money was needed to paint the bridge. No bridge exists in Henry township.

Postoffice Closed For Fourth of July

The Henry post office will be closed all day Tuesday July 4 in observance of the legal holiday. Rural and city services will operate normally except as noted for the holiday.

Central Park Schedule of Festivities and Fireworks

Central Park hosts a four day Gem City Carnival with rides and concessions. July 2 features speedboat races on the Illinois River at 1 30 p m and an Everett M Dirksen speech at 7 30 p m. July 3 offers Gem City Shows, Henry Senachwine Band concert at 3 00 p m and fireworks at 7 30 p m. July 4 includes prize presentations at 5 00 p m and 10 00 p m plus a new Ford sedan giveaway at Central Park. All events run in Central Park with City-wide gatherings and park activities continuing through the nights.

Father Louis to Lead St Marys Services During Schumacher’s Pilgrimage

Fr Louis of St Marys will preside over Sunday Masses at 7 and 9 am and weekday services at 7 am while Father Laurence Schumacher is away on a Holy Year pilgrimage to Rome. Whitefield area seeks transfer to Henry-Senachwine schools

A 93 acre farm in Whitefield township seeks inclusion in Henry-Senachwine High School District. Norbert Boehle petitioned County Judge D M Gregg of Marshall County for a transfer, with a hearing set for Monday July 17. Boehle says Henry is his trading center and his children should attend Henry high school, noting equal distance to Henry and Sparland. Henry district officials say they will not solicit territorial additions and leave decisions to the courts.

Install Box Seats At Fair Grounds

Box seats are being installed at the Marshall Putnam fairgrounds for fall events. Plans call for 60 boxes of six seats each, with a concrete base along the amphitheatre. Also noted are additional improvements envisioned for the year. Roy Kleinfelder reported Marshall county feeders marketed 40 steers on June 13 at the Chicago market, averaging 1232 pounds and fetching a top price of 31.76 dollars.

Illinois abandons lake program after costly plans

Leonard Schwartz, director of the Illinois Department of Conservation, says the KK lake project started July 1945 and planned 100 or more artificial lakes but has been abandoned. One lake finished by January 1949, three more completed since Governor Stevenson took office. Toluca Veteran Is Named State Police Officer

Wayne A Tealby of Toluca has been named a member of the Illinois state police for the Peoria district. He graduated from a Springfield training school and rides with State Officer Ro Steinke, both Toluca residents. Tealby, a Democrat, was sponsored by Toluca party leaders and will occupy a precinct previously held by two dismissed officers to restore balance between parties.
