Merchants will add a 3 percent retail tax beginning July 1 under a new state tax law to fund emergency relief. A token system will provide exact change in pennies and mills, preventing retailer profit from tax collection while aiding merchants with mostly retail sales. Tokens are expected to circulate within a few days.
Otto Meyer of Ottawa purchases Moslander’s Meat Market with possession planned for Monday morning July 1. Meyer, married with two children, aims to relocate his family. Moslander opened here over 15 years ago with no immediate plans announced. A separate incident saw Ralph Lindberg, from Minneapolis, climb a downtown pole to install a new top as a flag is prepared for future occasions.
Six young men left Lacon Friday night for Fort Sheridan and then to CCC camps on the Pacific coast. The travelers include Verne E. Scudder Milo J. Padovic Aschal Chiola Herbert L. Edwards Thomas A. Gallagher all of Toluca and Joe D. Van Dusen of Henry.
The Reconstruction Finance Corporation authorized a loan of 20000 dollars to the Saratoga drainage district in Marshall County Illinois and the action was reported by the Associated Press dispatch. The loan bears 7 percent terms.
William Cox, a retired resident of Tiskilwa, died last Sunday morning after a year in Oklahoma. He spent most of his life in Tiskilwa. He is survived by his wife and sister Mrs Etta Bogg of Oklahoma City Oklahoma.
Citizens and business leaders in Henry push for unanimous backing of a fund to cover the upcoming bridge dedication. The finance committee seeks prompt assessments to ensure a successful event and foster local pride and civic spirit.

The evening begins with invocation and includes piano violin vocal and reading numbers with offertory and song 180 by the congregation.
John Phelps aged 84, a well known Bradford resident, died at the home of Dr. Bacon in Peoria Tuesday night after a three week illness. He suffered heart trouble and age infirmities. He is survived by his wife and three children, Jesse of Hastings Iowa, William of Bradford, and Mattie of Peoria, with a son Walter who died years ago in Montana.
Members of Henry Fire Company No.23 sponsor a fish fry and outdoor stag at Skinger's Grove four miles south of Henry on Route 29. The date is 5 33 ing 10 and admission is one dollar to raise funds for the fire company treasury.
In Henry three factors met Tuesday to strengthen mutual aid among farm groups. Farm adviser led the event inviting clergy and press to discuss how trinivi rate cooperation can aid general welfare. Prof J D Billsboro reviewed University of Illinois programs for youth, luncheon followed, and afternoon talks covered farm bureau compliance and AAA.
Officials including John Fecht R H Petrich and Car Johnson announce rebuilding the Varna elevator destroyed by fire. Insurance covered 7500 dollars. Operations will continue via the Custer elevator as reconstruction begins at once.

Ten Putnam county boys depart Granville and Tuskington for Fort Sheridan to enlist in the CCC service. Names include Myron L. Brown Joseph Postulka William Bell Anton Mishendy Francis Newbaum Peter Osavage Ray Hennepin John Aas Novak Gwynne Peterson and Theodore Mills.
The bridge floor was poured on Saturday marking the near completion of the project. Remaining work includes curbing installation, form removal, and cleanup. Trumpeter Construction of Peru has contracts for paving approaches and the east river dike, with painting likely state done. Target completion aims for August 15 dedication.

Alonzo Mitchell Tremain born Sept 16 1852 in Henry Illinois married Lucinda Thompson Jan 31 1876. He moved with family to Nebraska 1880 farm near Malcolm active in Malcolm M E church, moved between Nebraska Colorado Lincoln before dying June 8 1935. Survived by four daughters, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
