Mrs. Lott Sullivan, 88, died at the twenty hospital at 8:80 am Wednesday from injuries hours after an automobile collision Saturday night. She apparently walked into Estil Redding's car near the Charles Salisbury residence, suffering a broken leg and severe injuries. Funeral plans pending. coroner Louis A Benz of Lacon investigated.
John Behrens reports chinch bugs destroyed a 15 acre corn field on his farm over the past weekend. The corn was about six inches high when the infestation occurred after bugs flew from a neighbor’s oats field. So far Marshall and Putnam counties report damage but no young bugs found yet. survivors from winter rains may explain the outbreak.
The Star route schedule starts this week with Barney Gambo of Standol as carrier replacing Joe Visit of Cedar Point. Mail will be handled from La Salle Street instead of Peru. Varna and Oglesby are added. Gambo will run two trips daily, 9:30 a.m. and 6:20 p.m., serving Oglesby Standard Granville Ark McNabb Magnolia Varna.
First to Bank of Tiskilwa depositors receive a five percent dividend last Wednesday as deputy receiver Dan Wooten of Princeton reports. Distribution totals $13.60 per depositor, bringing cumulative payments to 5 percent of claims. Previous dividends and credit redemptions amount to $612.90 and $370 applied to bills.
George Kelly, formerly of Bradford, died at Henry Hospital Hoos after a period of illness on Friday. Funeral services were held Monday at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Came Grove with Rev Brannick presiding.
Distribution of 38000 sales tax tokens began Monday in Illinois with a 1000 token limit per retailer. Tokens cost six cents for 40 and are produced at a Peoria department of finance office in the Commercial Merchants National Bank basement. Chicago receives 108000, Peoria 38000, Springfield 25000 tokens in the initial shipment. A plant machinery breakdown delays further deliveries until after Thursday.
Senate action looms on S 3006 to extend federal wildlife programs amid a $16 million sportsmen push. The bill would fund refuge expansion, raise duck stamp revenue, and consolidate lands to support Roosevelt era wildlife efforts, with five sponsors including Pittman Norbeck Clark Bailey McNary and Byrd.
Mrs Alsarata Duncan, 72, a former resident of this Illinois area, died Tuesday evening at the home of her daughter Mrs Rachel Barrick in Wichita Kansas. She was born in Putnam in 1863 and married H M Duncan in Henry in 1862. Survived by daughters Mrs Rachel Barrick of Wichita and Mrs Hattie Smith of Toluca, and son Roy Duncan of Chillicothe and Fort Madison Iowa. Funeral services to be held in Chillicothe Thursday with burial there.
Payment of a five per cent dividend totaling 10150 to the First State Bank of Manlius depositors was authorized by Deputy Receiver W. Grant. This fourth dividend raises total paid to 86 percent of claims. In addition, 5248.01 was paid to preferred creditors and 80000 on bills payable, all from liquidation funds.
The 1935-36 migratory bird hunting stamps are issued as a single set. A maroon canvasback reproduction stamps the set. Stamps cost $1.00 and need not be affixed to hunting licenses this year. Available for stamp collectors at the post office and similar outlets.
The new bridge was opened Tuesday morning and likely stays open several days before closing for ferry service as Trumpeter Construction finishes approaches. Over 200 applicants are registered and more are expected. Employers and job seekers may use the free service by phone at 48 Lacon. Former service employees B A Bollmann and S W Bastian lead the office.
The state highway police under Chief Taylor begin first aid instruction through the department of mines and minerals. One thousand police and maintenance workers enroll as Alexander Miller of Vincennes Indiana conducted the first examination. Twenty passed the first class and will serve as key trainers in advancing the project.
The late senate killed the proposed act to limit campaign expenditures sponsored by Senator Thomas P Gunning of Princeton. The upper house also defeated revenue measures on a chain store tax natural gas tax and a gross income tax. The House killed Representative F W Lewis’s bill to repeal the St Charles school for boys sentence provision.
Chest Ime fany rocident of this city known to a large number of people in this locality died in Chicago Tuesday. Funeral services will be held Friday and the body will be brought to Henry for short services at the cemetery where interment will occur.
