Hopewell Supervisor Laible Named County Chairman
William Laible of Hopewell Township was elected chairman of the Marshall County Board of Supervisors for the coming year. He will also serve as liquor and tavern enforcemen t officer for the rural county and head the Board of Review. The vote gave Laible eight votes to Litchfield’s four. Committees were named for the spring session and include divisions for births and deaths, education, elections, finance, and bridges among others.

Farm Floral Contest judging to start this week
Judging of the Governor Horner Farm Floral Contest entries from Marshall and Putnam Counties will begin this week and wrap up before July 1. Mrs. Gene Granert of Toluca, president of the Marshall County Federation of Woman's Clubs, leads the event with 32 Marshall County entries and 13 from Putnam. Club presidents will name two assistants each to help, with final county champion chosen by Mrs. Granert and two aides. Wenona has no entries and its club president will not participate.

The Henry bridge will be lit tonight after months of darkness. A State highway department representative assisted Henry officials and the Henry Business Association, installing equipment and repairs. All lights will shine tonight except four at the far end awaiting shades, due by July 4 for the town celebration.

One Man Combines Demonstration By Duke Brothers
Duke Brothers of Henry announce a one night demonstration of McCormick Deering No 60 six foot and No 22 eight foot combines at their store. The event features a sound motion picture and talks by factory men explaining harvesting with these machines. The No 60 is promoted as efficient and low cost. Putnam County Library Board Appointed
A county board of trustees to administer the new Putnam County Library was appointed by the Putnam County Board of Supervisors. The five members are Mrs. George N. Mathis, Mrs. Lucretia Franklin, Miss Bess Davidson, Herman Anderson, and Charles Read. The library will operate on a small tax levy approved at the April 12 election. The county also approved a public health nurse expense and a WPA highway project set to last about 18 months, with township cooperation. Highway resolutions cover Lake Senachwine and State Aid Routes 2 and 12, including right of way funding.

Counties set up public health nurse service for Marshall and Putnam

Car Hits Culvert Injuring Henry
Four young people narrowly escaped death when the Alden Hunter Chevrolet crashed into a culvert on Western Avenue near John Kirby farm. Driver John Alden Hunter and Miss Mary Shearer were badly cut, with Miss Williams suffering a broken ankle. The car was severely damaged, speedometer:jammed at 16 to 200 mph, and road aid brought to Henry Hospital.

Lightning Strikes Smith Barn In Roberts Township
A barn on the T. J. Smith and Son farm in Roberts Township burned after being struck by lightning about 11:30 AM. Floyd Smith and Gordon from Granville escaped with livestock. four pigs perished as the hay, oats, and feed fed the flames. Neighboring fire crews and locals aided as the barn and machinery were lost.

County WPA project outlined for Marshall County roads
A special meeting of the county road and bridge committee and township commissioners outlined a county wide WPA project to spend about 200000 on road and drainage work. The plan includes pre approving all projects on a county map and allows WPA to shift workers across the county to improve supervision and efficiency. A key aim is the Crow Creek drainage to prevent flooding and land loss along three miles of bank, with funding partly from local sources and rental credits.
