Weekend traffic arrests and accidents keep sheriff in action
Sheriff James A Evans and Deputy Kenneth Kenyon handled a busy long weekend with speeding tickets, DUI charges, and accident responses. Barbara Osborne was fined for speeding and driving without a license, with her passenger Ernest Russell fined for liquor impairment. An elderly driving case led to probation and license revocation, while a lingering vandalism report and minor crashes filled the rest of the docket.

New Homes Rising Around Henry Town
Several new houses are under construction or planned in Henry this year. Builders include Wallace Carlson James Miller Mark Turner Don Rickey Doss King and Alden Brown. Nearing completion are the King and Turner homes in Henry Whitefield adds a farmstead home on the Hufnagel property for Mr and Mrs Charles Schubert. A home rises on the Mark Kays farm in Magnolia township. The Miller furniture store is being rebuilt after a recent fire Ed Wiedman repairs a store to replace the one destroyed Lowell Hageman adds to the Marshall Putnam ASC office on Second street. Additional homes are in planning stages in Henry.

Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Freund of Chicago, formerly Cassie Henkins of Henry, who died Tuesday, May 31, will be held at St. Joseph's church in Henry at 9 a.m. Saturday. Friends may call at the Green funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rosary at 8 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in Putnam cemetery. A complete obituary will be published next week. Mrs Freund is a sister of Harley and Wil(d) Henkins of this city.

Mrs Vineta Sparr Pace of Henry chosen as honorary queen for Sparland Centennial July 22 23. Pace daughter of Lida and Matthew Sparr and great granddaughter of George Sparr who bought the town site in 1846 and the village was named after him. Pace mother of Lois and Wanda and long time Sparland resident an athlete and former telephones switchboard operator now works at Henry Hospital building.

War Heroes Parade and Memorial Day Services at Henry Bridge
A Memorial Day parade and services honored veterans from multiple wars. The Henry post 323 American Legion led by color guard and state police escorted the march from the Legion hall to Route 18 and the bridge. Participants included Scouts, auxiliary, high school band, and veterans with a firing squad salute. Only two World War I veterans joined the parade.

Funeral services were held for 83 year old Mrs. Kate Rapp of Lacon who died at her home after a year long illness. The rites at Immaculate Conception Church were led by Rev. R. D. O Loughlin, with burial in Lawn Ridge cemetery near Speer. Pallbearers included five nephews and a neighbor. She was born Dec 27 1871 near Camp Grove, daughter of William and Frances Lawless. Surviving are son Oliver Rapp of Hammond Ind a grandson two sisters Mrs Mary Cashin of Springfield and Mrs John Chambers of Lacon a brother John Lawless of Peoria and several nieces and nephews.

The Henry Greys of the Illinois Valley Little League will conduct tag day this Saturday June 4. Committee members are George Koehler Stanley Stedman and Lee Titcomb. Tags will be sold by the Little Leaguers to raise money for local major and minor league teams. Funds cover balls bats equipment field fencing bases and field upkeep.
