Funeral services for John Colligan age 91 who died Saturday at his home were held Monday at Brennan funeral home with Rev. Howard Brummitt officiating. He was born February 1, 1864 in Henry and lived here through youth before moving to Nebraska then Pomona California. he spent recent years with relatives in Henry. He left surviving a sister Miss Emmgan a brother James and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Mrs Anna Newth and Mrs Henry Newth and by brothers Paul and Charles.
A meeting is scheduled Friday with officers of the Businessmen's Association and other local businessmen. The Bureau of Management at the university will discuss surveys on various matters affecting Illinois counties and the size of Henry.
Merrielle Jury daughter of Mr and Mrs Milton Jury of Sparland is named valedictorian for the 1955 Sparland High School senior class. She led class plays edited the yearbook and served as a class officer while active in FHA chorus GAA and Pep Club. Lloyd Davis Jr son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Davis is named salutatorian editor of the annual and a Student Council member. Both honor students announced by Superintendent E B Jones with commencement planned for Thursday evening.
The 63rd Ancagy Sepachwine Henry Senachwine Alumni Association banquet was held Tuesday night at Henry Senachwine High School during commencement week for the 1955 graduates. About 230 guests enjoyed a rainbow table setting, baked ham dinner by Methady church volunteers, and an evening of music and reminiscence led by alumni president Wayland Downes and master of ceremonies Joe Butler.
Rev Cedric Pope of Princeton Methodist endorses the United Nations and its work after attending sessions. He argues the UN has shifted from a military focus to humanitarian and diplomatic aims, criticizing press coverage and urging support for its ongoing program. Harold Q Frey sponsored the talk, though he was away at a funeral in Macomb.
The Marshall County Sportsmen's Club will hold a meeting at the American Legion hall in La con on Friday night May 27 at 8 o'clock. All members are requested to attend especially those who will operate pens for pheasant chicks due to arrive in the next two to three weeks. Secretary W Ziegier urges help with the program.
The Henry Senachwine high school will honor 24 seniors at 8 p m Friday with commencement exercises. Dr Carl S Winters of the First Baptist church Oak Park will deliver the address Greatness Passing By.
May 29 services mark the St Marys May crowning with the graduating class joining the procession from the school to the Blessed Mother statue in the Rectory garden. Living Rosary will accompany prayers before the church ceremony featuring a sermon and benediction and the diploma recipients listed.

George Warner Jr died at St Francis hospital Peoria from polio at age 13. He was born January 13 1842 in Pekin and lived near Toluca before moving to a Varna area farm in 1951. He attended Mid County Junior High LaCon and faced his illness after ten days of onset. He is survived by parents Randall sister Rose Anne Rhonda and maternal grandmother paternal grandfather. Burial followed at St Pauls cemetery Toluca.
Twelve Varna neighborhood farmers from the George Warner family planted ninety acres of corn for a distressed farmer. The work took eight hours with eleven trac. crews in the field. Dinner was served at the Ernest Junker home by Mrs Yunker and others. Neighbors listed include Carl Schoepke Arthur Schwanke Ernest and Ronnie Junker Joe Nott BU Harms Lyle Gumbie Dewey Spear Ernest Skaggs Glenn Hatton and Ellsworth Bishop.
The Henry city council met at city hall in adjourned session with Mayor J F Klein city clerk AB Child city attorney John Wosth and all aldermen present. They reviewed proposed business improvements and heard reports on business men’s work for the project, deciding to await further reports before action.
Henry-Senachwine seniors hear Rev Melvin Schultz describe heritage education and faith as tools of life at the baccalaureate service. Vocal selections and a benediction set a reflective tone as the class contemplates graduation and future paths.
Robert A Jamieson, longtime educator and administrator now with Irions Concrete, will address the Mid County high school graduates at a 8 p.m commencement in Varna High School auditorium. A Henry special meeting at the K of C hall approved a survey to gauge voluntary contributions for new street lights curb gutter and sidewalks in the business district. Estimated costs were $50 000 after reductions with no property assessments and potential bond funding discussed.
