The Henry News Republican notes lower overall Christmas sales than recent years with fewer big-ticket purchases and softer demand in clothing and household items. An exception appears in new car sales where dealers report stronger activity than usual for the holiday period. Many stores anticipate better final results despite a slow start and widespread family dinners with turkey shortages noted over the weekend.
