Farmers Seal 362108 Bushels of Corn for loans in Marshall and Putnam

Farmers in Marshall and Putnam counties sealed 362 108 bushels of corn on Saturday December 23. They will receive 45 cents per bushel as a loan from the Commodity Credit Corporation amounting to 162 948 60. Sealers H J Schumacher Toluca H S Marine Hennepin and G C Swallow Henry supervise at the First Henry National building opposite the Farm Bureau offices. Applications are accepted in person at the supervisory office or by mail or phone.

William Dillon of Wenona Dies at 66

William Dillon age 66 of Wenona died suddenly at his home at 3 30 am last Wednesday after a heart attack. He had lived in Wenona 38 years and was known for garage work and a soft drink parlor. Surviving: daughter Nellie Strausenbach son Frank and niece Ida Brown two sisters Mary Dillon and Ellen Sullivan both of Chicago. Funeral services were held at home and St Marys Catholic church with burial in St Marys Cemetery Wenona.

Last Rites Held for Peru Hardware Leader Peter Trost

Funeral rites were held Sunday for Peter Trost a 66 year old Peru hardware business owner who died Friday at St Marys Hospital LaSalle. Mass at St Josephs Catholic Church Peru was offered by Rev Florian Heiss with burial in St Josephs Cemetery Peru. Delegations from Catholic societies attended. Survived by widow two sons Peter and William of Peru three daughters Kathryn and Elizabeth of Peru and Mrs George Grosskreutz of LaSalle plus a sister Mrs Catherine Hebel of Peru.

Expert to Rearrange All Stock at Watercott’s Store

C K Royce of Carsony Pirie Scott and company Chicago arrives in Henry to redesign Watercott’s store. He will rearrange stock and fixtures to modern display standards facilitating shopping and selections. Hicks and Barnes Wed in Dixon Ceremony

Announcement of the marriage of Miss Grace Hicks to Orval Barnes. The ceremony occurred on November 29 in Dixon. The couple, residents of the community west of Henry, plan to settle on a farm near Henry.

County May Have Nurse Under CWA Program

Springfield announced county and other counties in the state may receive a county nurse under a WPA style CWA program. Dr. Frank Jirka said the project aims to improve health, check disease, immunize, promote nutrition, school nursing, visiting nursing, infant and prenatal hygiene, day nursery duty, and public clinic service.

Examination for Henry Post Office opens open competitive test

The United States Civil Service commission announces an open competitive examination to fill the city postmaster position. Eligibility requires US citizenship, city residence within post office delivery for at least one year, good health, and within age limits. Both sexes may apply. The highest three eligibles may be certified for nomination by the President.

Large crowd attends Henry gift distribution in prize event

A large crowd in Henry gathered for a merchant prize distribution last Saturday night with Santa Claus in charge. More than 100 in cash and merchandise were given away, and local stores reported better business than a year ago. Prizes went to people from Tiskilwa McNabb Magnolia and Sparland and the event boosted Christmas shopping sentiment.

Mrs Garrett DeF Kinney widow of the Peoria politician and former state finance director received 39198.21 in life insurance held with her as beneficiary. The state tried to block collection asserting Kinney’s accounting was deficient and citing a suicide after an indictment for embezzlement.

Granville Doctor Narrowly Escapes Fire at Office

Dr. P A Hartman of Granville narrowly escaped a blaze that damaged his apartment above Trendt drug store and another shop. He was overcome by smoke but survived after escaping through a front window aided by spectators as the fire department controlled the fire and water damaged stock in the drug store.

A belated Christmas weather visit brought sharp cold with snow flurries. by Christmas day temperatures dropped to near zero and dipped to 18 below in places while most readings hovered around 10 below. the western canada cold front from the plains caused a lengthy deep freeze across the region. exceptional damage included frozen radiators and broken pipes as authorities noted the cold will ease only slightly with more cloud and possible snowfall.

Princeton Legion Proposes a Ground Marker

The Princeton post No. 125 American Legion plans a Ground Air Marker announced by Commander Carey R. Johnson. The committee includes Carey Johnson John S Skinner and Hilding Strand. Ladd Seeks $50 000 Sewage Plant loan grant

Community Committees Named In Corn Hog Control Program

The county corn hog committee met at the farms bureau office on Tuesday December 26 to appoint township committees. Nine townships have five members each with Lacon Hopewell combined. Corn Hog Meeting at Henry Theatre

Peru Bank Reopens For Business After Reorganization

The First National Bank of Peru reopened for business at 9 o clock Wednesday, restoring banking services after months of effort to reorganize the former State National. Col. Robert R. Ex-Hennepin Woman Claimed By Death

Mrs. Allie Shields, 61, a former Hen nepin resident, died early Saturday at her sister’s home in Chicago after illness. Her remains were brought to Hennepin Saturday evening for funeral services held Tuesday afternoon at the Royal Home. In earlier years she operated a dormitory for students at Illinois and had moved to Chicago only a few months ago.
