Apple Grower of the Year Honored at North Carolina Apple Festival

Wayne Barnwell, a third generation farmer and owner of Barnwell Apple House near Chestnut Gap Road, received the 2023 Apple Grower of the Year award at the NC Apple Festival opening. Barnwell runs a 100 acre plus operation, donates hundreds of bushels of apples annually, produces cider, and has led regional apple groups. He credited his family and fellow farmers while thanking supporters from his roadside stand and farming community.
