Local barley aims to meet Sierra Nevada demand in Mills River

Riverbend malt is featured in a Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Across America 12 pack, with 20,000 pounds shipped to Mills River but more needed. Asheville area barley aims to supply 100 percent of raw materials, tapping Blue Ridge fields after a tough harvest. Harvest planned for next month with malt ready by late July or August for tasting and beer.

Sol y Luna Opens Second Downtown Location

Sol y Luna, the Laurel Park Village California style Mexican restaurant, is opening store no 2 in the former Cypress Cellar space below Main Street downtown. Owners Griselda and Ricardo Gutierrez plan to open in about a month with weekend hours likely until 10 p.m. Cypress Cellar closed after 18 years, with owner Renee Ellender noting high rental interest before closing.
