Dome nearly doomed during WWII history of county courthouse
The Historic County Courthouse built 1904 05 with a golden domed Athena statue faced structural failure during World War II as steel beams from masonry and wood floors loosened. City and county officials ordered emergency repairs with temporary supports and WPB approval. By February 1944 three steel beams were installed and the courtroom refurbished, restoring the building for continued service.
