Mills River Opts for County Tax and Deputies Plan
Mills River town officials approved the county tax increase of 6.75 cents and accepted a law enforcement contract with the county. The town will gain three deputies assigned entirely to Mills River, patrolling and handling calls, while residents note no municipal tax for policing in Flat Rock and survey results favored enforcement over garbage service. Town Manager Jeff Wells and Mayor Freeman said this one-time raise is preferable to incremental steps, though the visibility of deputies remains unproven until July 1.
