Middleton Road closed to traffic in western segment

Wells Shealy petitioned for road abandonment after NCDOT planned to replace the Mud Creek bridge. The Flat Rock Village Council Henderson County Board of Commissioners endorsed the closure last year as landowners signed a petition. Shealy will maintain the dirt road which is now private property and not a public greenway due to liability concerns.

Mills River eyes property purchase for park expansion

Mills River Town Council discussed buying 6.6 acres across three parcels valued at 364 400 for tax purposes to expand the town park. A 1 37 acre Driscoll parcel includes a 2 279 square foot brick house valued at 203 100. Coastal Express LLC owns a 3 3 acre Hooper Lane parcel. An appraisal is expected after a Thursday session.
