Hendersonville OKs $6 million bond for Berkeley Park
Hendersonville City Council approved a $6 million bond plan to develop Berkeley Park with first phase items including an entry drive main parking, picnic area, destination playground, memorial tree garden and walking trail. A second phase added a turf soccer field an overlook garden and additional trails with a second parking area. The plan adds a 3 cent tax for 20 years, drawing opposition from Councilman Ron Stephens who warns of higher taxes next year and concerns about state legislative actions. Kimberly Clark donated the 60 acre park in 2008 and supporters urge swift voter approval as residents seek more park access. Mayor Volk underscored public interest in parks and greenway connectivity ahead of the November vote.
