Transylvania County blocks biomass plant with one-year moratorium

Transylvania County commissioners approved a one year moratorium 3 2 delaying biomass energy project plans from Renewable Developers. The ordinance bars permits and actions for a biomass electricity plant and related facilities using pyrolysis or waste as feedstock. Proceedings showed split votes with Hawkins Chapman Lemel for the moratorium and Chappell Hogsed against, as officials sought more information and expertise before proceeding.

Caldwell Repays Trip Cash After SBI Question

Former Hendersonville City Council member Diane Caldwell says she wrote a check to the district attorney as repayment for a trip to Memphis after the SBI questioned travel money. She notes a $29 discrepancy in her travel claim and says the Foundation and police did not request money back. Caldwell served 1993 to 1997 and is running again.
