Neill moved from federal to state prison in Salisbury
Disbarred Hendersonville attorney Sam Neill, 66, who embezzled from five estates and was sentenced to six to eight years, was released from a federal prison in Jesup and transferred to a Piedmont Correctional Institute intake in Salisbury to undergo processing before assignment. He faced tax evasion and embezzlement charges totaling about 2.78 million dollars with a 55 thousand dollar theft insured by a bond. The private foundation case highlighted the estate losses and partial restitution, while Henderson County tourism officials postponed their annual conference due to repeated snow closures, seeking a new date in February or March.
