Granite cross honors resting place of slaves
In Flat Rock at St. John in the Wilderness a granite base and six foot cross were installed to memorialize slaves and freedmen buried in the churchyard. The cross was erected with help from Tim Roberts, Nelson Motes, and parishioners, funded by grants and donations. The service, on January 10, will be attended by Bishop Porter Taylor, with descendants hoped to attend.
