Who Counts Homeless Population in Henderson County
A point in time count on January 26 tallied 112 homeless in Henderson County, with 82 in shelters and 30 unsheltered. Seven volunteer teams from Southern Mountains Homeless Coalition, including Social Services Thrive United Way Health Department and Pardee Hospital, canvassed shelters and unsupervised locations via law enforcement tips to identify where people slept last night. The results rise from last year’s 70 and will be forwarded to the North Carolina Coalition to End Homelessness and then to Congress.
