Italy's fascist government raises military funds for 1930 31 to 526 million lire with 209 million for the army 100 million for the navy and 80 million for aviation plus 20 million for the Blackshirt militia. The move follows French Alpine fortifications along the Italian frontier and aims to bolster defense and enforcement.
Four men, Emerson Tawyer age 24 and another lawyer 21, both from Springfield, plus Plot 4 Le. Chamaxer Cincinnati, and a fourth passenger, died when a plane nose-dived 500 feet above Lind airport. The craft struck the railroad embankment beside the field immediately after takeoff or during a turn.
Mrs. Glata Nelson alias Hanks, 23, was jailed in Utah County after deputy sheriff Ed J. Patterson arrested her in Fairfield. She is suspected in a $27,000 robbery of D. L. Morehouse, Oakland California, a capitalist.
Washington June 28 AP Secretary of Interior Wilbur informed Chairman Colton of the public lands committee that he opposes the Walsh bill to reassign wind offices in the government public domain.
A Texas posse of about 150 men killed Jack Robertson after he shot and seriously wounded Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Eggar of Round Rock. The Eggars, hospitalized in Georgetown, faced serious injuries but the physician’s report said the wounds were not immediately fatal. The incident occurred in the Eggars home in the presence of their 14 year old daughter Willie Mune who alerted neighbors. The posse pursued Robertson along the road to Austin and killed him after he fired on them when intercepted about five miles from Round Rock. A female companion was arrested for investigation.
In Beaumont Texas on June 28 a mob gathered near the county jail as Sheriff W W Corngton stood by with rifles and a machine gun to prevent the planned seizure of Rainey Williams 35 accused of assaulting white women near Port Arthur. Port Arthur men pushed the jail crowd to deliver the prisoner but the sheriff declared the law would run its course and kept Williams confined on the second floor amid a crowd exceeding two hundred.
Chicago reports the vessel City of Chicaga near a world record as it continues a 416th hour of night refueling at Sky Harbor port. Officials note the current world record is 4202130 hours and the ship aims to surpass it after dawn today.
Edwin Winter 86 former president of the Northern Pacific Railroad died in the Trieadada hospital in Fall River Massachusetts after intestinal trouble. He was from St Paul Minnesota and New York and is survived by his wife Veratt T. Winter of St Paul and Wallace of Dii capa and two daughters Mrs W J Dean and Mrs Harry Itchle of St Fra.
Washington June 25 The Senate moves ahead on the veterans relief bill as the House version is amended. Rep Watson of Indians leads a near unanimity to push rapid Senate passage. Democrats seek higher monthly benefits and new allowances while Republicans press cost limits. The House bill is trimmed to avoid income tax on pension relief and debated provisions on service connected disease. The American Legion backs extending filing time for war risk insurance claims and abolishing the office of veterans affairs.
Tama Peru January 28 VP Information from Bo Ineia says the revolutionary movement in Chatreat Jie is successful. The Anancinted Press dispatch reports General Hana Kundt, chief of the Bolivian army, was killed as rebels moved to oust President Siew and reclaim power. Exiled Bolivian vice president Abdona Anyodra and political leaders in Buenos Aires seek La Parby support.

In Washington June 28 AP the House attacked Hoover use of private funds for the law enforcement commission probe as illegal while plans formed to restore 250000 for the deficiency bill to continue the work. Rep Guardia NY Republican challenged the item for next year’s expenses as improper and Mead NY Democrat introduced a resolution mandating Wickersham report to the clerk.
Centralia Washington June 28 AP Democrats at their state convention urged repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment and return to state control of prohibitions. A wet plank favored by a large majority urged re enactment of the Webb Kenyon law and repeal of federal prohibitions, with state laws restricting liquor transport and sale. A minority report warned of resignations if repeal is not supported.
Salt Lake June 28 The conference of western state governors formed a permanent organization with a focus on public land state welfare. Gov Frank CG Leverage of Wyoming was named president with John J. Phillipy as vice president and the secretary post retained by the president. An executive committee of leading governors was established to guide policy.
In Moscow’s National Opera House Stalin is hailed as strongman of the Communist Party. He delivers a seven hour speech urging unity behind Leninist ideology and warning enemies of the pro socialist project to support peace with Russia’s allies. The ovation honors all Soviet nationalities represented in attendance.
A posse of about 30 men surrounds a suspected Indian killer near Point on June 28. The fugitive, believed armed with a high power rifle, has not been seen since he was wounded, with theories including self harm or river escape. Deputies and local residents search the Brockton area for Fant Horse, cited as an expert rifleman, amid reports of a shooting and continued manhunt.
In Terre Haute Indiana June 28 a woman identified as Clara Rintey 25 housekeeper and Mrs Raney 6 year old son were found dead in Oakley apartment. The suspect later killed herself and Oakley’s wife was hospitalized with injuries. Police have not established a motive.
Columbia Ohio June 28 FP Death in the electric chair today as George Williams 66 year old to form killer faced his sentence. Williams admitted murder of Cloverland police officer Witlin and was pronounced dead at 12 34 am after threats and unruly behavior in the death chamber. Williams was described as one of the most hardened prisoners ever placed in the chair and had warned he would beat the chair.
Squadron Leader Charles Kingsford Smith and the great ocean flyers plan a Washington visit to meet President Hoover. The article notes the massive Southern Cross plane and the pilots’ return from Europe, with possible plans to fly on to London and continue adventures around the world.
Copper magnate Thorpaen, died at his home last night, leaving ten million dollars to endow plant research at the Thompson Institute founded decades ago by Colonel Thompton.
