Philippine letter from sergeant Ed Shortess notes Masbate posting
From Masbate Philippines a letter by Sergeant Ed Shortess describes his appointment as deputy division superintendent of schools in Masbate province. He outlines duties, island geography, travel by steam launch, the staff count rising from 13 to about 35 or 40, and a salary trajectory from 1500 to 1400 then the next year. He praises living arrangements with army officers, dining, and a favorable board. He hopes for a summer 1908 home visit and a world tour plan despite long travel ahead.
