Hearne Telephone Growth Expands Local Payroll and Dial Service
Southwestern Bell’s Hearne exchange will handle Calvert long distance calls after next month’s dial conversion. Since 1900 Hearne’s system grew with the town, now employing 25 residents with payroll over 102000 annually. By 1960 about 2030 telephones are expected, with future facility expansion planned as Hearne continues to grow.

Jenke Resigns to Lead Snook Assembly of God Church
Rev J T Jenke, pastor at Franklin Assembly of God for five years, resigns to take the Snook church post. He, Mrs Jenke, and children Fred Sandra and David moved to Snook last week and began duties Sunday. Leroy Williams of Normangee will lead Franklin church with his wife and three children arriving last week. Annie Armstrong of Goldthwaite visited daughter Mrs Duane Barron and family part of last week.

Gifford-Hill Operates Large Hearne Sand Plant
The Gifford-Hill Co runs a major sand and gravel operation west of Hearne Texas employing 31 people with a 27000 ton monthly capacity. The plant features modern equipment including a Houga pay loader a 105 foot conveyor belt six bins and a large sand stockpile. Superintendent C L Hudson foreman J R Mahan and bookkeeper Miss Sarah Slagie lead the Hearne operation begun in 1937. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Pack of Houston visited Ivy Ebert last week.

Franklin High School Band Banquet Honors Members and Guests
The Franklin High School Band held its annual banquet on Thursday night March 17 at the Elementary School auditorium with the Do Re Mi theme in blue and silver. President Maria Martine led the table setup with assistants Elaine Moore Elizabeth Hicks Frances Scasta Dolores Gassen and Bernadette Gassen. The program featured an invocation by Dolores Gassen a welcome by Frances Scasta a response by Bernadette Gassen and recognitions by R E Shanks and Elizabeth Hicks. Johnnie Lou Mahan performed a Do Re Mi solo others played clarinet selections Kate Hedrick Sherry Nilkson Patti Sandifer and Linda Meadors. Guest speaker Wilson T Betts of Waco gave the address and Sebie Grace Duffey delivered the benediction. additional attendees included R E Shanks Mrs Shanks Supt Roland Reynolds and Mr and Mrs Joe Hedrick.
