Fatal Accident Near Easterly Kills Ridge Man

A Friday crash near Easterly on Highway 79 killed Kenneth Wayne Currie, 30, of Ridge. A northbound 1976 International truck tractor semi-trailer driven by William B. Erwin of Hemphill swerved to avoid a slow vehicle, colliding head on with Currie’s 1973 Dodge. Currie died at the scene. two vehicles involved. highway patrol investigated. Also noted: hit and run suspect captured after a van collision on Farm Road 979 near Calvert. No injuries. A separate incident near Hearne on Highway 6 involved a car striking three cattle after failing to stop for a herd.

Jury Returns 14 True Bills in Robertson County Grand Jury

The Robertson County Grand Jury met Monday and returned 14 true bills. One was no billed. County Attorney Dana Harris released four names of defendants facing trial: James Marvin Thomas of Pasadena for murder in the April 29 killing of Roy Lee Bishop of Hearne. Jerold Boring of Franklin for aggravated assault in Hearne on April 19. Louis Stoneham of Hearne for robbery at Gil's Exxon Station in Hearne on May 28. John Louis of Hearne for murder of John Moss in Hearne on March 29. Further indictments will be announced as filed.

Free vaccine drive at Hearne Housing Authority

Immunizations for measles polio tetanus pertussis diphtheria and German measles will be free at 809 Davis Street Hearne on Tuesday July 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Paul Turner of the Texas Department of Health warns rubella and measles have rebounded sharply with 896 measles cases and 316 rubella cases in the first three months this year compared with 105 and 81 last year respectively.

Trail Ride Set for Saturday to Barrville Ranch

A trail ride is planned for Saturday afternoon. Riders depart Norwood Lane at 2 p m and travel to Barrville Ranch between Calvert and Franklin. They will camp on the ranch Saturday night and return home Sunday afternoon.

Jaycees Install Officers at Hearne Charter Banquet

The Hearne Jaycees held their officer installation and charter banquet Friday evening March 17 at 7 30 in Fireman's Hall and the Cameron highway. Master of ceremonies Robert Walker welcomed about 100 attendees. Charles Cotton spoke on Jaycees purpose and presented Jim Lammers with the Jaycees charter. The oath of office was administered to Jayceettes officer Susan Lammers and to Hearne Jaycees officers including Lammers as president and Koch as internal VP. A dance followed plus a Jayceette raffle awarding a pair of western belts to Kern Ventren of Ennis.

Lincoln District Annual Session at New Chapel Baptist Church

The 106th Lincoln Baptist District Association session will be hosted by New Chapel Baptist Church of Bryan from July 5 to July 8. Officers include Rev. C. M. Roach as second vice moderator and Rev. Reginald C. Gentry as assistant secretary, with Rev. Oliver W. Mack as statistician. Other Hearne area churches in the association include Bethlehem Baptist, Jones Chapel, Old Elam, Proressive, Trinity, Providence, and more.

The monthly community singing will be held Friday night May 34 at 7 30 p.m. in the Hearne Community Center on Davis Street. Area residents and out of town visitors who enjoy singing will be welcome.

FHA Approves 155000 Loan for Robertson County Water

The Farmers Home Administration has approved a loan of 155000 and a grant of 105000 to Robertson County Water Supply Corporation to provide water service to new customers north of Franklin. The project includes a new well and storage facilities serving 73 new customers, with prior financing in 1975 totaling 542000 loan and 21000 grant.

Nine Area Pupils Make Dean's List at Sam Houston State

Hearne area students appear on the spring dean's list at Sam Houston State University for earning at least 12 hours with a 3.0 or higher average. CAP Members Attend Meets at Summer Encampments

Calvert High School Civil Air Patrol sent two cadets to Air Force summer encampments. Major Robert Hanhart flew from Grand Prairie NAS to Maxwell AFB Alabama June 18 and will stay through June 30. Lieutenant Dimitri Henry flew from Ellington AFB to Sheppard AFB Wichita Falls June 1 and remained until June 20. Mrs. Leo Zeig and son John returned from a week in Oklahoma City with relatives.

Five Hearne Students Named Distinguished at A&M University

Five Hearne area students earned Distinguished Student ranking at Texas A&M, limited to the top ten percent of undergraduates. Recipients include Janice K. Boyle in educational curriculum and instruction, Carla J. Chunn in economics, Karen A. Franks in chemical engineering, Martha Scamardo in computing science, and Mary Scamardo in accounting. Each must have at least a 13.25 grade point ratio in the latest grading period.

Bunch Wins Two From Centerville

The Booger County Bunch defeated Centerville twice in New Baden, first 13-8 on Monday June 13 and then 11-4 on Thursday June 16 in fast pitch softball.
