The April mayoral election gave Myers a majority but Fortinberry refused city records claiming Myers did not meet a 12 month residency requirement. Quo warranto was filed and heard before Judge Ashe.
Italy voiced support for the Franco British Belgian pact with Germany at Geneva. Although temporarily excluded, Italy hopes to join if extended to all German frontiers. Early September is seen for broader talks before the League of Nations assembly revisits the protocol.
Washington reports that immigration quotas for all countries will remain the same as this year and as fixed in the 1924 Immigration Act, effective from July 1.
Kenedy city commissioners have purchased a site from Mrs. Albert Rine for 8000 dollars to erect a new city hall. The buy sets the stage for construction and governance expansion in the Texas town.
The Roxann Petroleum Corporation of Virginia will drill for oil on the Clemens state farm in Brazoria County after a lease completed Wednesday with the prison commission. The commission receives a 20170 bonus plus royalties one eighth of oil and gas and 75 cents per ton of sulphur mined. Drilling must start by next December with no more than 60 days between wells. The lease covers 8218 acres except 50 acres around each convict camp retained by the prison system. If adjacent lands yield gas or sulphur, offset wells must be drilled.
Humble Oil and Refining Company of Houston buys a Texas oil holdings group including Marathon Fold Drilling and Marathon Old Lease clubs along with Chester R. Bunker and Frank Greene for 1.5 million dollars, 350,000 in cash and remainder in oil. The Powell operation marks first production on non UT land in the area.
In Lockhart Texas last week Wells Witherspoon Nos 7 and 8 and New Domain No 2 completed in the Lockhart field. New Domain No 1 continues producing after a pay sand discovery near Eage ford. No. 2 ceased at 1552 feet in serpentine with an estimated production around 200 barrels.
In Rockdale Texas a dry hole was struck on the Widow Walker tract about a mile east of the present producing area. Drilled to 1280 feet the well showed regular formations and sand but no oil, ending the search for a new producer at that spot.
Humble Oil and Refining Company secures a new location at Goose Creek Texas for a well on the Harrell tract west of the creek. The target is 490 feet from Gulf Production Company's Chapman Bryan No 4 the latest producer completed in the area.
Active drilling in Starr County resumes after a lengthy shutdown. John R. Hadley of Tulsa leased Mercedes Oil Company property and began drilling. The lease includes the Kelsie lands, favorably located near town and regarded as among the best locations for oil in the area.
Beeville Texas Producers Oil and Gas Development Company has received a state charter and will shortly start operations on the Welder No 1 deep test located on the Welder ranch, about three and a half miles southeast of Beeville.
A match struck on the derrick floor of a riverbed gas well caused a fire that destroyed the derrick and rig on the gas well and burned the derrick on a producing well about 60 feet away in the San Marcos River bed.
Cuero Texas derricks head for two deep oil tests in immediate Cuero territory with drilling rigs en route. Tests may begin within two weeks as operations get underway in the area.
Well Well Makes 3,000 Barrels Hull Texas Colbear No 95 by Republic Production Co in Hull oil field now completed for 3000 barrels flush production.
Makes a new location in the Orange oil field for No 22 Chesson B. The well offsets Edgerly Petroleum Company No 1 Courmier where a test is in progress.
The Parr and the Gilmer oil tests drilled many years ago northwest of Lockhart will be redrilled at an early date. The site lies in the Lockhart area, with local interest in potential recovery.
