Hearne School Board requests review of complete integration plan

The Hearne School Board through President Dr Ken Kennamer on July 25 sent a letter to the Office of Civil Rights asking for a further review of complete integration by September 1. The board seeks another year to refine high school campus plans while continuing to unitize grades 10 11 and 12 and using freedom of choice for grades 1 9. A new architect was engaged to study feasible layouts including four additional classrooms and more vocational space. Supt G G Grant announced three new hires including Jerry Watson as high school band director and Jimmy Reeder as coach and PE teacher at North Side School. Shirley Tenalio will teach English.

Nine Amndmts To Be Voted Tuesday In County

Qualified residents of Robertson County will vote on nine proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution on Tuesday August 5. Polls open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Absentee voting deadline is Friday August 1. Four new voting boxes join Bremond Calvert Franklin and Hearne with four existing sites Benchley Mumford Willow Creek and Ridge available. Hearne box only for Precincts Two and 21. Elliott residents may vote at Franklin or Hearne. Election judges not yet listed.

Overpass Details Shown At Hearne City Hall

Large displays detail the Brown Street overpass plan with traffic patterns and property impacts. Drawings show two traffic lanes and a protected pedestrian and bicycle walkway as part of the project ahead of the August 20 public hearing.

Mrs. C. M. Altimore came home after a week visiting her children in Waco and Temple. She spent time with Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Pierce Jr. and their two sons in Waco and with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Altimore Jr. and their three children in Temple.

City Budget For 1969 70 Repeats $1 00 Tax Rates

Hearne approves a 1969 70 budget keeping the $1.00 per $100 valuation tax rate. Net spending rises about $27 000 to 620 170 with operating costs up 10 percent for utilities but general fund transfers rely on utility profits and taxes. Salary increases and a future tax rise are debated as council sets a public hearing for Sept. 6 and notes need for Brown Street overpass funds. Mayor pro tem John Miles Jr. elected.

Calvary Baptists Announce 10 Day Revival

Calvary Baptist Church at 606 East Second Street launches a 10 day revival beginning Friday with daily eight o clock services. Evangelist M R Massey from Houston will lead, Frank Warren of Milano will direct singing, and Reverend Jim Barnett of Caldwell pastors the church. An August 10 dinner on the ground closes the revival and invites the public to attend.

Hearne Little League Falls 3-0 to West Waco in District Nine final

Hearne Little League All Stars lost to Western All Tournament team of Waco 3-0 at Cameron Park Diamond in Waco. Kennedy pitched five and one third innings allowing three hits before Kirk’s homer provided all scoring. Hearne managed two hits and seven left on base while committing five errors.
