Hearne Building and Loan Moving to New Home Weekend

Hearne Building and Loan Association will close Friday and open Monday in a new building between Magnolia and Market Streets just north of Brown Street Overpass. Construction began in 1975 by K. B. Butler Company. Open house planned in March to celebrate the new facilities.

Ray Amos Named Distinguished Student at A&M University

Ray Amos has been named a Distinguished Student for the fall semester at A&M University by John E. Pearson dean of business administration. Amos, a 1972 Calvert High School graduate, attended Oregon State University for two years before transferring to A&M. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Cannon Amos and is married to Debbie Tidwell.

V. F. W. Meeting Set for February 5 in Hearne

Hearne Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a regular session at 7 p.m. Thursday February 5 in the Hearne Community Center. Fred Moore of the Veterans Affairs Commission from the Veterans Administration in Waco will be the speaker. All veterans are urged to attend.

Public Hearing On Beer Sale In Robertson County

A public hearing in Robertson County Commissioners Court in Franklin on February 9 will consider authorizing after hours alcoholic beverage sales for on premises consumption. Citizens requested the hearing to permit these sales and may attend the 10 a.m. session led by County Judge Wesley E. Peyton.

Girl Scouts and Brownie Scouts in Bluebonnet Council spanning thirteen counties begin annual cookie sale Friday January 30 through February 7. Hearne leaders Jeanette Martin and Danny Glass announce four cookie varieties. Proceeds support Camp Kathina Lake Belton Camp Howdy Bryan College Station and Camp Adair with seven cents per box to troops and one cent to senior programs. Girls may earn part of summer camp fees. sale uses buddy system with daytime hours, no door to door after dark, no Sunday sales.

Hearne Airman Utecht Graduates At Chanute Base

Airman Michael F. Utecht of Hearne completed an Air Force mechanic course at Chanute Air Force Base Illinois. He learned to maintain multi engine jet aircraft and was assigned to Dyess AFB. A 1975 Hearne High School graduate, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward R. Utecht.

Lions To Stop Selling Trees In Hearne District Action

The Hearne Lions Club met January 20 to discuss the District 283 mid winter conference. Members voted to stop ordering Christmas trees due to rising costs and weak sales. Other fundraisers considered include a talent show at the high school and a donkey ball game versus Calvert Lions. وهي.

New Infant Program Aims to Help Disabled Children in Robertson County

The Infant-Parent Training Project starts in Robertson County serving about 50 children up to age three who are developmentally disabled. Director Harriette Kagel of the Brazos Valley MH-MA Center oversees evaluations and individualized plans with doctors and consultants, plus follow up with home teachers. The program operates separately from public schools but prepares children for possible later enrollment in public programs.

Voter Letters To Be Mailed In Robertson County

Tax Assessor Collector Bob Stelbauer announces letters will go out this weekend to Robertson County residents registered to vote. The letters request birth date birth place and Social Security number plus a wife’s given and maiden names due to changes in election laws. The Hearne city council accepted a corrected deed and discussed a potential subdivision in southeast Hearne by Mr. and Mrs. Link Wilson of Tucson. They approved a funeral procession route, final payment for annual Christmas decorations, and considered utility costs and drainage for the proposed subdivision along Lost Creek.

Hearne Eagles Split Two District Games

Hearne Eagles 6 2 hosted Caldwell then traveled to Leander for another district contest. They beat Elgin 52-48 after a 67-54 loss to Cameron. Lester Davis led with 18 points in both games, and Bruce Henry added 15 against Cameron while Davis and Murphy each had nine rebounds for Hearne.

Fall And Country Garden Club Meets

The Fall and Country Garden Club completed its January project after a meeting held Thursday January 22. A powder puff quilt will be awarded in February. President Mrs L D Kelley and Vice President Mrs Berthenia Lewis attended the monthly meeting of councils of garden clubs in Bryan and received materials for forming a Junior Garden Club. The yearly calendar will be completed and made available to the public.

Holy Land Tour is Planned for Summer Travel

A meeting will be held Monday February 2 at 7 p.m. at 1102 Anderson Street Hearne to plan a Holy Land and Europe tour this summer.
