Barton Named National Adjutant of the American Legion
James F. Barton, previously assistant national adjutant and longtime Iowa department adjutant, becomes national adjutant succeeding retiring Russell Creviston. Barton, a Fort Dodge native and former star athlete at the University of Iowa, rose from war service captain to commander of Fort Dodge post 180 and led the Town department. Creviston, Marion Indiana, moves to Rome as secretary of the Legion delegation to the Rome congress, with honors and a badge presented by the national executive committee.
