The Chest campaign opened at 540 dollars with clerk Mrs Meta Hares on duty. The first donation came from the Women Business and Professional Watchmen's Club which pledged 350 dollars Monday night to the Chest. Donations will be collected by workers and subscriptions reported as the drive begins.
Sacramento reports a wet and dry fight at the forthcoming state Democratic convention. Delegates and committees urged a plank supporting the 18th amendment, hoping the party platform endorses prohibition at the state gathering. In Los Angeles County the prohibition central committee declined to back Mil K Young or Upton Sinclair, leaving the governor's race unresolved.

Burlingame professional Harold Sampson of Burlingame California defeated defending champion Leo Diegel 1 up in 20 holes to win the second round of the annual P G A championship in Flushing New York Diegel led 2 up at halftime of the 36 hole match providing a close contest and Sampson advanced today.

Albert E L Fischer, longtime Hayward resident and former Railway Express agent, died after a hunting trip near Indian Canyon. His funeral at Sorensen Mortuary included a Masonic service and a Livermore burial. survivors include his wife Florence and sons Albert and others. The local community organized a large search party when he went missing Friday, with his body found Saturday near a cabin.
A Meekland Avenue man killed himself with a 20 gauge shotgun in his bathtub, with buckshot pellets causing skull damage. The body was found in the bathroom around 11 oclock by residents after a door was found locked. The deceased, described as a nurseryman with a wife living in Berkeley, reportedly faced a personal and domestic crisis. Funeral arrangements are handled by Pratt Mortuary and an inquest date will be set later.
S P filings with the Interstate Commerce Commission oppose Western Pacific’s plan for a 39 mile link from Niles to Redwood City.
