Burning gasoline creates wall of flame at Ashland school

Must Pay $270 Or Go To Jail As Drunk Driver
Edward Ralph DeGroff, 643 Madrone Sr., was sentenced to 90 days in jail or a $270 fine after appearing before Judge Jacob Harder Jr. on drunken driving charges. DeGroff, in custody, was arrested by Highway Patrol Officer Rose after knocking down several signs at Maddox Rd. and East 14th St. This is his second conviction for the same offense this year. he had paid a $150 fine previously in Oakland.

Negro Killed As He Stands On RR Track
The body of Monroe Calloway a 45 year old Black man from Texarkana Arkansas was scattered along 1hd feet on Western Pacific tracks when killed by a passenger train at the Hesperian Boulevard crossing Monday at 3 40 PM. Witnesses said Calloway faced the train with his back to it and hands over his ears while it struck him. The train crew confirmed the witnesses description. Calloway was identified by his galiet found on the tracks.
