Lt Woolsey Held Many War Medals and Honors
First Lieutenant William F. Woolsey returned to Hayward after a 35 month service with the 12th Bombardment Group. He earned the Soldier's Medal and multiple campaign ribbons for Libya Tunisia Sicily Foggia Naples Anzio and the Asiatic Pacific theatre with three stars. He also received a presidential citation for a 1948 North Africa incident in which seven men died after their convoy was strafed. Woolsey led the survivors back to their division.
