Abe Leach, Oakland attorney and Alameda county Boy Scout chief, tells Rotary that fathers cannot provide needed companionship and praises Scout groups for guidance. Miles Harrington directs the program as almost a hundred Rotarians attend.
The crowd cheered Mr. Leach as Lions and Howkans review the solicitation plans. Hayward aims to raise 4000 dollars from 1506 donors with gifts from five to twenty five dollars and many will give five dollars though any contributor helps. All boys benefit, member or not, through the reflex program. Hugo Frank and local leaders mobilize volunteers while Principal Reid recounts Rotary visits in San Diego and a Mexican school.
Frederick Koernig a former Hayward baker who moved to Fruitvale and opened a Foothill boulevard bakery died in a San Francisco hospital after a lingering illness. He was 54, a Germany native, survived by widow Albertina and two sons Frederick Jr and Louis K. Koernig. He belonged to Odd Fellows Lodge No. 213 and the San Francisco Bakery Union. Funeral held October 10 at 7 p.m. from Conservatory chapel Julius Good Man Oakland.
Officials of the Hayward Homing Pigeon club cancelled the pigeon race from Colfax to Hayward, 1125 miles, planned for Sunday. More than 100 birds were entered, drawing interest from pigeon fanciers downtown.
The Bank of Italy National Bankitaly Company and Bancitaly Corporation plan a single holding valued around 500 million dollars with 75,000 stockholders. They would raise capital, issue 25 percent stock dividends, and offer new shares at 180 dollars, with March 1928 issuance.
Melvin Sox Lewis and his mother visit Hayward over the weekend. The former Hayward High basketball captain now lives in San Francisco and attends Mission High. He was warmly greeted by friends at Harvard High during a Friday visit.

Local interest grows as J. E. Stafford head of Alameda county Reappraisal Department and Vor T. Ellsworth tax research specialist speak at Hayward Union High School Tuesday evening. Stafford topics on Reappraisal of Land in the Hayward Vicinity attract many residents.
Miss Nima Dozier McLeod, daughter of Mr and Mrs W D McLeod, became bride of James T Ritch last Saturday evening at the bride's parents home in Hayward. Rev G G Saywell performed the ceremony. The couple will reside in San Francisco where Ritch works for Bode scu Printing Co.
Castro Valle R G Bonnett and family of Hunter Oklahoma spent the pay week with Mrs Bonnette’s brother kk W Bornenan. O T Crowe Sr spent Monday in Oakland on business. Farm Home Center hosts an entertainment and Hallowe'en party Saturday evening October 14 at Native Sousball with cards dancing and refreshments free. Mrs Appleby Miss Davidson and Mrs Wright attended the Tri County Farm Home meeting in Byron Hot Springs. Lundsay Mr and Mrs Hun entertained Mrs Bessie Smith of Iowa Miss Mabel Mosey of San Andreas and E D Bowman at dinner.
Deputies A. R. Shurtrett and L. E. Van Patten arrest Grace Loveland and two others on October 7 after large quantities of wine and whiskey are found at several premises within the same block.
Hayward leads Bay region in growth and plans a bold race with Richmond to attract the Pacific States Company to build next year on the B street site. John Robinson chairs a three group effort, with captains Miss Jorgensen and Mr Quin, aiming to outpace Richmond by end of 1927 in telephone business amid internal competition among Reds Blues and Greens.
