Hayward entries win praise in San Leandro Cherry Festival parade
The Cherry Festival parade drew huge crowds in San Leandro with Hayward entries receiving top honors. Two Hayward floats tied for silver cups, including the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion and the Business and Professional Women's Club. The Chamber of Commerce and other Hayward groups also showcased decorated Chrysler and other vehicles along with riders and a pageant float "In Fairyland" prepared by local teachers and Miss Mello.

Hayward Rodeo Parade Highlights Local Entry Festivities
Fire departments from Hayward and Castro Valley joined a colorful parade featuring cowboys and cowgirls from Hayward. Run-Away Youth Held for Bicycle Theft in Hayward
Chief John Lewis and Constable A J La Cunha arrested a 14 year old San Francisco boy named Manuel Leal on the Hayward streets for trying to sell a stolen bicycle for two dollars. He then attempted a second sale before police took him to the juvenile detention home after notifying San Francisco’s juvenile court.
