A B 17 Flying Fortress crashed on a Marin County peak near Mount Tamalpais while en route from Tucson to Hamilton Field. The crash killed two aboard. several others were injured and trapped for hours. Wreckage scattered over the rugged terrain as the pilot and co pilot wandered miles before reporting to Hamilton Field.
A Wing Airlines chartered airliner from Newark to Miami crashed five miles from Richmond destroying the forward section and killing all 25 passengers and two crew members. The pilot Anderson had taken off at 12 07 am and rerouted due to bad weather. The wreck lay in soggy farmland after a tree cover and stream intersection, with bodies removed by tractor wagons.
Wallage B Toggs, secretary of the Alameda county planning commission, announced a second hearing on the proposed zoning ordinance for unincorporated areas. The hearing is at 2 p.m. May 21 in the board of Supervisors' rooms at the county courthouse in Oakland. If no changes are needed, the ordinance will be approved and transmitted to the board for consideration. Public hearings by the board will occur before final adoption.

Lewis and Charles ONeill to propose an arbitrator, and urged miners to stay in mines during arbitration. A federal seizure of railroads was anticipated if talks collapsed, with a Saturday strike seen likely and potential broader economic disruption.
Girl Scouts set a carnival and badge exhibit at the Veterans Memorial building on Saturday May 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. under Mrs Dean Broadwell. Warren Perkins uncle of 25 years in school trustee service faces Russell Grosjean from San Lorenzo district in the May 27 election. Perkins, a retired rancher born in Sacramento, has long served Hayward and now elementary duties while praising the village growth and calling school conditions bad. Grosjean, a former Ashland Cubmaster and Boy Scout commissioner, favors educational facility improvements and runs in a active civic life with his wife secretary of the Ashland PTA, living at 1083 Lewelling Boulevard.

San Lorenzo School District is the only one expected to have a contested race with Warren Perkins, Frambant, and Russell Granjean vying for the trustee post. Other candidate lists include A. Dennis, incumbent Tennyson, David Dickie, Cuslyn Vaile, and Charles Bules with N. Wrenwila and Harold Nguyen among others. polling sites include San Lorenzo, San Lorenzo Village, Sunset and Ashime schools. Polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in most districts, with Edenvale and Independent districts voting at their respective schools.
