Hayward completes outfall sewer serving 50,000 population

Hayward’s outfall sewer is now operating extending over 17 946 feet from town to the bay shore. City Engineer Jesse B Holly says the system will serve 50 000 inhabitants and allow for future growth as part of a broader disposal plan for about 80 000 acres. Construction began last summer and faced weather delays before opening on May 12.

Lottery Prize Drawn in Hayward Court Guilty Laundries Case

Yee Young today drew a prize of 10 days in county jail after pleading guilty to operating a lottery at Sing Lee's laundry on B street. Police Chief Louis Silva and DA investigators seized lottery apparatus and blanks. They probe a mysterious book Yee says lists laundry clients. the laundry adjoins Kong Kee’s premises where a shooting occurred last week.

Edward Perham Called by Death

Edward Perham a native of England and longtime California resident died at home on Sunset Avenue Monday morning May 14 after an extended illness. He was 65 and had lived in California seven years. Friends mourn his passing and offer condolences to his wife Ilarion. Services will be held at Sorenzen Brothers parlors Wednesday evening at 7 followed by burial in Lone Tree cemetery.

U S to Act in Case Of Youth Charged With Forgery

A 17 year old from Hayward is held at Quakland detention home as grand jury weighs forgery charges. He confessed to pilfering post office boxes for three months and cashing over 500 dollars in checks. County officer and Postmaster Harry Bradford led the arrest. the youth faces possible mail robbery charges and removal to a government facility in Idaho.

Co F Men Excel at State Rifle Range Practice

Captain Clyde Voorhees and a Company F Hayward National Guard squad traveled to the Leona Heights state rifle range for weekly target work. Three of 12 shooters earned expert marksman ratings: Corporal Allyn Trehesen with 226, Private Fox with 224, and Corporal Ray Reim with 227. The unit plans continued Sunday drills with full gear and lunch breaks, aiming for summer proficiency.

Funeral for Mrs James Hackett Tuesday Morning

Funeral services are set for Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock for Mrs. James Hackett 80, who died Sunday in an Oakland hospital. A native of Ireland she lived in California 35 years, much of it in Hayward. Survived by husband James and four sons John Ivan Edwin Gerald. Advocate County Training School For Probationers

O F Snedgar juvenile probation officer and R A Leet probation board chair urged Alameda County supervisors to buy 60 acres on Livermore hills for a boys training school. The project would cost about 256900 and include shops schools and dormitories. About 50 boys are at the detention home and Whittier is full, leaving no place for required training before release.

Fixer Plea Fixed 50 Dollars by Judge Harder

F. F. Griffith of Oakland faced a rock esse driving and speeding charge near Niles. He pleaded to have the case fixed at 50 dollars, paid to avoid further action. He later withdrew the plea, claiming the judge said everything was rosy. The charge was dismissed with a nod from Judge Jacob Harder Jf.
