Enos Delgardo, 26, of Decoto, sustained severe hip and back injuries when a crane platform struck him at the Associated Gravel plant in Niles. He was trapped under the moving shaft and required immediate care at Hayward General Hospital. Doctors fear internal injuries but hope for recovery if no complications arise.

Ashland Man Fatally Injured After Auto Collision
Calamaro, 48, of 275 Ashland Avenue, was struck on East 14th Street by a car driven by M. A. Pierce of 618 Third Street Hayward. Taken to Fairmont County Hospital, he suffered brain concussion, lacerations, bruises, and possible internal injuries. Doctors doubt recovery. The accident occurred when Calamaro stepped into the path of Pierce’s vehicle, which was about 35 mph, after being blinded by oncoming lights.
