Graduation Exercises at Bret Harte School

Family quarrel blamed for death by own action

Manuel B. Janqueiro, 34, of 271 Pearce street, a farm hand at W. Z. Smith’s San Lorenzo ranch, hanged himself in a barn early Monday after separating from his wife Mary Borge Junqueiro of Tracy. His body was found by fellow worker William Butter near a 40 o'clock hour. Deputy Coroner Walter Flier and Chief Louis Silva investigated. funeral arrangements are by Pratt Mortuary.

Dr Dobbs and wife begin three month Europe tour

Dr Earl M Dobbs veterinarian at Fairmont county hospital and Mrs Dobbs depart Monday from Los Angeles for a three month tour of Europe. They will visit cities in Germany Switzerland France Hungary and Holland and attend world veterinary meetings. They plan to return to Hayward by September 1.

Disagreement Leads to Police Call at D Street Address

Policeman Chris N Thorgaard responded Saturday to 1338 D street where Manuel G Moura and his wife quarreled. Moura spent two nights in city jail after being charged by his son with beating his wife and threatening to kill her. Moura claimed his wife struck first. judge Jacob Harder Jr granted Moura time to prepare for a hearing next Monday. A 15 year old girl was sent to the county detention home for school truancy. her father faces state law charges and trial next Monday.

Man Dies Saving Child in Liverpool Incident

A man sacrificing himself to save a child from an oncoming train in Liverpool died. A second person, a girl, was fatally injured while attempting to rescue the child. Police and bystanders assisted at the scene as the event unfolded.

Band Concert Precedes Castro Valley Social Event

An hour long concert by the American Legion band will precede a dance and whist at the Castro Valley school house. Proceeds support new band uniforms. Harold Heiser's orchestra to provide dancing music. Committee led by Thomas MacGarvie oversees arrangements for the event expected to draw several hundred attendees.

Inquest Set Over Ong Deaths In Berkeley

An inquest will be held in Oakland into the deaths of Rev. and Mrs. O B Ong of Berkeley after injuries from a car crash earlier Thursday night. The Rev. Ong died from skull fracture and internal injuries. Mrs. Ong died en route to Highland Hospital. The driver was Rev. Father Abel Casta and police call the crash unavoidable. The wreck happened at 72nd Avenue and East 14th Street after a church service.

Pistol Club to Present Plans at Legion Meeting

The American Legion Pistol club of Hayward post No. 68 outlines by laws and organization plans ahead of a post meeting. Members met at Archie Westers home and aim to enroll full membership and join shoots with bay region teams. War dud kills two boys near Muench Hausen

Two youths in Alsace near Muench Hausen found a war relic and tossed it into a ditch. The device exploded, enveloping them and causing their deaths in agony as the noxious gas released. In England, Reverend J P de Patron voices concern over organist wages in the Church of England.

May construction permits total four thousand two hundred dollars

Mrs. Adella Brooke Dies After Short Illness

Mrs. Adella Brooke longtime resident and wife of John Brook of Pleasant Way died Saturday evening. She leaves Mrs. R. J. Lambert and sons Laurence Frank and Lester Brooke. Transbay plane dives after hitting sand barge in Oakland estuary

An amphibian plane departing from the Air Ferries terminal bound for San Francisco struck a sand barge in the Oakland estuary and nosedived into the water. Eight aboard were injured. both pilots and passengers were rescued and treated at Oakland emergency hospital. Two passengers were Mr and Mrs Virgil Unks of San Leandro.
