Directive Issued For All Cannery Union

The National War Labor Board in San Francisco ruled on a dispute between the Cannery Workers Union of Alameda County and the California Processors and Growers Union. It sets union shop rules, vacation entitlements, wage calculations, and night shift pay. victory workers receive special provisions and processing season hours. The decision, effective March 1 1944, also retroactively adjusts prior wage payments and vacation rights.

Hull Accuses Argentina of Enemy Aid

Secretary of State Cordell Hull read a sharp rebuke of the Argentine regime led by Gen. Edelmiro Farrell, labeling it a traitor to the Western Hemisphere for aiding enemies of the United Nations. Man Gets 60 Days For Petty Theft

Eddie La Croix nabbed Tuesday night by Hayward police appeared in Hayward Justice court. He was sentenced to 60 days in county jail on petty theft charges. He asked to leave Alameda county and suspend the sentence, but the request was denied. He claimed prior time served for statutory rape and drunk charges. He was charged with stealing belongings of Maxine Phipps and said he kept them for her, returning radio and alarm clocks to Hayward.

Soldier Is Killed In Camp Accident

Nineteen year old Frank Tayes died in an accidental shooting at an Army camp in Arkansas. Foster parents Mr and Mrs Herman Orscheidt of Poplar Ave Livermore had word. No other details released. Funeral planned at Mission Chapel Fruitvale Ave Galland Friday at 2 PM.

Hayward Tire Department announces a new business line for fire calls. Chief Tony August said the old Hayward 76 is kept for fire dispatch only, while business inquiries should use Hayward 417.41.

Battalion Cited For Valor From 100th Infantry Unit

Lt Gen Mark W Clark awarded the War Department Distinguished Service citation to the 100th Infantry Battalion Americans of Japanese descent from Hawaii for battles near Belvedere and Sasnet a Italy June 26 27.
