Legion Band Delights Hayward Plaza Crowd in Outdoor Concert
The American Legion band, about 30 players plus six from Half Moon Bay including two women, performed at Hayward Plaza Friday evening before 200 to 300 attendees. Sugar Factory At Alvarado Starts August 10
The Holly Sugar company in Alvarado will begin its annual sugar beet run on or about August 10, with about 175 workers to be employed at the plant for over three months. Over 7,600 acres of beets have been contracted, mainly in Washington township, with the remainder shipped from the Sacramento River region. Improvements cost $100,000 and include a pulp drier, a new power generator, and a new warehouse being built by EEL Dias of Niles.

The H. M. Ash family and the remaining travelers have returned to Hayward after a 3000 mile trip to Yellowstone Park. They spent about a week there and then proceeded to Portland Oregon via the Columbia Highway. Marian Ash drove 400 miles daily on the return journey. At a Palma Circle Neighbors of Woodcraft meeting Mrs Anns Lemos received the attendance prize.
