The annual Western Show at Harry Rowell ranch Dublin canyon drew about 2500 attendees for a concluding afternoon of rodeo acts and military displays. Johnny Jordan of Cheyenne won the broncho busting finals. a widow’s relief fund raised 323.72 dollars from cowboys and spectators amid cliffhanging stunts and clown routines.
J. A. Phelps assistant postmaster general will speak in the Rose room Oakland hotel Friday at 2 PM under the Women’s Republican club auspices. Mrs I C Allen and Mrs L R Rosenburg invite local women to attend and hear national affairs context and administration insights.
Charles Mulcare known as Pat McCarty died in Highland hospital from a skull fracture after his horse fell and kicked him during opening events of the Hayward rodeo in Dublin canyon. He was 38, survived by wife Daisy, injuries reported as internal. Crowds honored him with a moment of silence and a benefit raised over 200 for his widow. His funeral planned for Baker, Oregon, with contributions from the American Legion band and rodeo management. Similar rodeo results listed winners in steer roping, broncho busting, rope methods, and wild horse race events declared Sunday.
Three men sustained injuries in a Sunday automobile crash on the Niles road near Holy Sepulchre cemetery. The sedan driver Epiphanio Suarez fled left to pass a truck driven by Reginald Goncalves. the car veered into a ditch and overturned. All three occupants were treated at Hayward General Hospital. State Patrolman Anthony Enos investigated. multiple injuries were reported in southern Alameda county.
A Sunday grass and brush fire east of Kelly Hill required about five hours and 40 firefighters and volunteers to control. The blaze threatened 100 tons of hay at the Vargas brothers ranch and echoed calls for county fire-fighting funds as Alameda County officials consider a fire truck appropriation.
Floyd Stagner, 30, assistant manager at the Bank of Italy San Leandro branch, admitted defalcations totaling 1106. He was arrested on a national banking laws violation charge after bank auditors found shortages, and he was turned over to government agents. restitution was made and actions expected to be dropped.
Mayor James Rolph Jr will deliver his governorship campaign message at a mass meeting in Hayward theater Tuesday morning between 10 and 11 o clock. Campaign staff and local Rolph supporters organize the event with attendance open to all voters in the area.
About 100 rabbit breeders gathered at the Himalayan Fur Farm on Mount Eden road for an official show by the Central California Association of New Zealand Breeders. Exhibitors from Hayward Oakland San Rafael and San Jose presented 110 entries plus does and litters. Judges included Herbert Eldredge of Menlo Park. A farm picnic followed and a special meeting will select rabbits for shipment to Nebraska.

Burton F. Becker, once Alameda county sheriff, prepared to leave the Oakland jail for San Quentin to begin a 1 to 14 year term after conviction for conspiracy to bribe in the east bay graft expose. He said he would not appeal and wanted the sentence to start and be over.
The Forty and Eight society delegates to the state convention were named at the Alameda Legion hall with Archie Kesterson presiding. C E Godkin and William T Morgan of Hayward named as delegates. William T Silva injured during initiation. The gathering discussed diverting unclaimed meter deposits to veterans dependents, and Oakland Legionnaire Phil Solon backed the measure. Bastile Day plans and Forty and Eight activities dominated events, with four initiates at a separate ceremony and a large social gathering afterward.
More than 200 guests attended the wedding reception. The newlyweds honeymooned in Seattle and Vancouver and will be at home at their Simon Street cottage in Hayward, expecting to return about August 1.
