Apricot Growers Brace for Low Prices After Canning Cutbacks
Apricot growers in Alameda county face a 30 to 40 percent smaller crop than early estimates while prices run about 20 dollars per ton below expectations. Canners set top price at 42.55 a ton just before shipping, with many growers locked into contracts as driers hold remaining supplies. The Hunt Brothers cannery began packing earlier this week, Farm Products Sales Co of Hayward reports average returns of 50 to 60 dollars per ton across 35 growers, and additional carloads head to Chicago, the Midwest, and New York. Prices for Alameda county stock were the highest on record, with extra fancy at 32.664 hours per box and other grades around 1.60 to 2.22 per box. Meanwhile pear harvest prep begins August 1 with varied state pricing, 735 a ton for Grade 2% in multiple counties.

Gas War Ends as Prices Jump Nationwide
The San Francisco gas war ended Friday night with Standard Oil restoring 20 cent prices and Shell following. In Hayward the six stations posted 20 cents while others awaited orders. Indpendent dealers had threatened federal intervention as prices had fallen to 10 13 cents, and reports say some stations sold as low as 5 cents. Phoenix Flyer Model A Ford Sets West Coast Run Record
The Phoenix flyer team led by Pon Kuhwarth Dohner and Gal braith celebrated rodeo day by parading through the city in a Model A Ford.
