Hayward Union High School battled Richmond Oilers in a practice season finale at the Alameda gym, losing 42 to 36. Captain Tom Cordry led Hayward with notable play while Mervin Yates and Major Burr supported the effort as a large crowd watched the Class C contest follow earlier Class B and C preliminary games.

Social Dance by Unaliki Club Draws Guests in San Lorenzo

The Unaliki Social club of the San Lorenzo PTA hosted an invitation dance at San Lorenzo grammar school on Saturday evening. Despite stormy weather, many guests from the Hayward region attended as a ten piece orchestra played and several novelty features entertained. The Cnatiki club, a new PTA-affiliated group, aims to bolster social events and the Saturday night dance enhances its growing prestige. The organizing committee included Mrs Hazel Jacobsen, Mrs L L Brown, Miss Jebner Flockhart, Miss Lela Kelly, William Jacobson and C J Lawson, San Lorenzo school supervising principal.

Hayward High Gym Crowded For League Opener

Hayward High crowds packed the gym for a league opener with the stands full and spectators filling corners. Coach Kay praised the turnout and said the teams valued the support as the Lolkeslants prepare for Alameda next Friday at 3 30. The Hayward squad has a home date February 16 at 3 20 versus Berkeley.

Death of William B. Cafferata Aged 44

William B. Cafferata, 44, died Saturday afternoon at Hutchins Rubber Company where he had worked for 10 years. Born in England, he moved to America young and had lived in Oakland before settling in Hayward eight years ago. He leaves four siblings including Fred in Victoria, B C. Deputy Coroner Walter Flierl holds the remains at Pratt Mortuary pending funeral plans and Canadian instructions.

P T A Carnival Draws Crowd Despite Rain

The high school P T A carnival Saturday night drew a large crowd and strong cash progress despite a heavy evening rain. Activities included a jitney dance fortune telling ball throwing candy booths and food stands. Mrs H Henningsee totals and Mrs Chris Blake led planning with commendation from attendees. Dividends totaled about 3.5 cents per dollar invested with a $5 purchase for fire shares. Midway Oil offices are in Portland and Seattle with wells in Bakersfield region active for nearly 25 years.
