A Hayward court on Friday evening fined nine men after a district attorney led raid on a laundry operating as a gambling room. Gee Yung paid 150 pounds. Sing Gee and Arthur Chew fined 50 dollars each. Gee Fung paid all fines. One captive escaped through a rear door during the crackdown.

Death of Richard C. Edwards in Concord Road Accident
Richard C. Edwards a 63 year old Hayward resident and wealthy sawmill operator was killed when he stepped from behind a gravel wagon and was struck by an automobile driven by Harold P. Prewett of Antioch near Concord. He leaves a wife and six children including Ronald a recent Hayward high school graduate. Funeral services are set for Monday in Concord.

Welfare Board Funds For Niles Home In February
The Southern Alameda County Welfare board child department reports it can maintain the Niles home through February 1 with on hand funds. A committee led by Walter Fliers will meet early next week to discuss care and fundraising strategies. During four months 553.10 was received including a 100 loan from Mr and Mrs Frank T Dusterberry. 373 was disbursed in the last three months of 1928 when the home was established. The board will not seek further county club donations and Hayward High sewing classes will supply clothing material for the children.
