Flooring for the span is ready for placement as San Mateo plans final torping and an official bridge opening envisaged for Saturday March 2. The ceremony on the San Mateo side begins at 2 PM with ribbon cutting and ends on the peninsula side.
Castro Valley A C will play Sunday at Castro Valley school grounds at 12 oclock in a lively game against Lou Cabinet Makers of Oakland. Connor has pitched superbly in two starts allowing just four and five hits respectively, making him a promising young hurler the valley expects much from.
Archie Meyers, a member of the high school varsity basketball squad, is the latest recruit added to Company F in a recent roster update. He appeared for its first drill on Wednesday, marking his entry into the unit.
Tonight the Castro Valley volunteer firemen host their third annual masquerade ball at the Castro Yuaker schoolhouse with bay city fire chiefs chamber of commerce and Hayward officials expected to attend. Charles Mendoza, about 37, collapsed and died on the Castro and B Streets corner Saturday afternoon. He owned a pheasantry on Dublin Canyon Road. Bystander M Maise and rescuers including Dr. Don Manley and Chief Louis J. Silva attended, but revived efforts failed. Doctor Manley cited probable heart disease. The body was taken to Pratt mortuary. his wife Mrs Anual Mendoza survives.
Mrs Mae G Anderson wife of Peter Anderson proprietor of a store on Gantro street died early Saturday at Central hospital after long illness. Survived by two sons Malvin and Simeon. Born February 28 1892 in San Ramon she spent most of life in the region. Funeral Monday 12 at Sorensen Brothers mortuary with interment Lone Tree cemetery.
Under Chief Louis J. Silva police paint red and white no parking signs in Hayward business district with completion aimed by Saturday. Traffic Officer Irving Nelson fines violators of two hour parking, prompting merchant complaints and an upcoming city council session to decide on enforcement. A state muffler cutout law enforcement has largely stopped that offense since January.
El Portal hosts its first furnished model home, "The Rutland," by Wentomery Ward & Co, opening Sunday 2 to 5 PM and daily thereafter. The five room English design sits in a restricted subdivision with tree views, curb streets, and modern conveniences, showcasing new ideas in home construction and furnishings for prospective buyers.

Hayward varsity and Class B basketball teams closed the year in the Alameda County league with defeats to Piedmont. The varsity fell 30 to 13 and Class B 23 to 5. Piedmont’s Catling led with six baskets while Hayward’s Parrott and Smith showed promise. Coach Kay looks to rebuild next year as several seniors graduate.
The American Legion schedules a Navy Night with boxing at Hayward theatre Tuesday and a dance at the Legion hall Thursday led by Captain Lineberger. Ex-sailors and ex-marines support plans as Mayor Witthur welcomes guests and Sheriff Harder attends.
Hayward hardware firm to open in Main Street with John Siemerelist locksmith and M J Tehnaton, 17 years a resident, uniting two businesses. They will carry paints, household goods, hardware, and glassware. Johnston, longtime Kelly hill resident, formerly partnered at Alameda Wardware and former sales manager for the California Goat Breeders Marketing association.
The Improve ment club hosts a district dance at Tennyson High School auditorium. The Black Cat or White Horse orchestra will perform as Franklin Hodeson Darrell Krase and others supervise to ensure a top event. About a hundred guests from Hayward and nearby areas are expected for a memorable evening.
