A century of Haywards Plaza history recalls Rancho San Lorenzo tenure by Don Guilermon Castro and Maria Luisa Peralta, railroad ties, and the old Edmundson warehouse. The plaza evolved after a 1903 cleaning drive, 1932 memorial fountain, and civic efforts to plant trees and beautify the town, becoming a social hub for service members during WWI.
The 1946 Red Cross fund campaign will use Hayward OPA offices as a campaign HQ. Marlin Haley, drive chairman, said donation of office space in the ration building was arranged through John J. OConnor. Campaign plans and committee appointments will follow a city hall meeting on February 2.

Dolls of all descriptions will be exhibited at Bones in the field February 16 in a sponsored event by the Hayward Recreation district. The first show runs at Burbank school from 2 4 p.m. and continues 3 4 p.m. Cesiro Valley, 7 9 30 p.m. San Lorenzo Village, and 2 64 p.m. Sunset school February 22. Adults and children may exhibit. First second and third place ribbons will be awarded for best dressed doll, best child made doll, best aged condition doll, storybook doll with largest wardrobe, best pipe pot doll, and best animal doll. Playground directors with supervisor Carol Pulcifer plan the event. organizers include Mrs. Gerry Munoz, Mrs. Beth Watson, Mrs. Jean Broadwell, and Mrs. Gretchen Ambrose. Registration starts 10 a.m. show day and closes at noon, except San Lorenzo Village which allows some early registrations for the evening show. Children and adults should bring dolls early for display and classification. Each doll will be identified and owners will be able to verify them after the show.
