Two High School Youths Feared Dead In Bay

San Lorenzo youths Donald Hubert and Russell Yates, both students at Harvard Union High School, are feared drowned after their canoe failed in San Leandro Bay. An airplane search from Oakland continued Friday with pilots observing the scene near San Lorenzo and Alvarado.

Castro Valley Woman Injured In Bus Accident

Mrs. Margarita G. Minifie of Redwood Road sustained a possible rib fracture and bruises following a collision between a Peerless bus and a light automobile at the Castro Valley cutoff junction with East 14th street about 6:36 PM Thursday. She was taken to Hayward General Hospital for examination.

State Death Rate Highest in Nation

The U S population rose 3 626 000 between 1925 and 1927 while deaths fell 15 975 according to the commerce department report California posted the nation’s highest death rate at 13 5 per 1000 and was one of five states where the rate did not decline.

Oaklander Bound and Slain in Oakland Apartment

The body of George Gulbernson, bound hand and foot and showing strangulation marks, was found in his basement room of an apartment building in Oakland. Evidence suggested a struggle. Gulbernson, an elderly janitor, had failed to report for work, prompting the discovery.

SACRAMENTO December 28 United Press Special to The Review. Cal Hornie's basic industry earned 10,000,900 more in 1928 than 1927. Director G H Hecke of the state department of agriculture reported to Governor Youth. Revenue from fruit fell to 238,000,000 from 263,600,007 this year. Field crops and citrus fruits showed gains in production and revenue, with field crops delivering 184,756,000 this year versus 168,435,000 last year.

John Silva aged 63 died after a skull fracture believed accidental at Highland Hospital. Alameda County Plans Central Health Center Board

County supervisors consider an ordinance creating a nine member Alameda County Public Health Center board to oversee all health centers and hospitals in the county. Dr. Ben W. Black would be executive officer, with centers listed for patient referrals and admissions to Highland and Fairmont hospitals and Del Valle. The Hayward office recently gained a gas heating plant, new lab equipment, and expanded offices including library storage moved to the office.
