In a fast paced Inter-company game at the Armory, Galloping Centaurs defeated Company F of San Jose 50 to 12. If the league allows deferred teams to stay in the series, Hayward’s Company F may be reentered. otherwise their season ends amid a blaze of glory.
A business survey shows strong support to light Hayward for the holidays. Install costs run about 5 per shop on Castro A and B and three main streets, with the city covering electricity. A Christmas tree in the Plaza and illuminated streets are expected to draw shoppers and boost seasonal spirit.
Ravano Bros. Grocery occupies a spacious five room building on B street. The shop near the Economy Cloak and Suit Shop is now a thoroughly modern grocery store with extensive stock. The move marks a big upgrade from the old frame structure and should please customers and the firm.
A Thursday night opening of the New Castro Villa under Fred Hamontree drew a full crowd from San Francisco and Oakland. The remodeled resort featured Bessie Babish Players and Don Wilkins Fanchon Marco Revue with standout dancing and singing.

Shon Fortunas, once a partner in the Villa Grill, died at the California Sanitarium Belmont on Thursday at age 38. A Greek native, he had lived in the Hayward area for 10 years and had retired from business last summer due to poor health. He is survived by a brother in Cairo and a sister in Athens. Known as “Milton” to Villa Grill patrons, he was a well liked figure with many friends. The body lies at Sorensen brothers parlors pending funeral details.
Funeral services for Norma Jeanne Moniz, 2, daughter of Manuel and Mary Moniz, will be held at Sorensen brothers parlors Saturday at 9:39 and at All Saints Church where mass will be said. She was the granddaughter of J. S. Duarte and Mrs. Emily Moniz, and survived by a sister Elaine and two brothers Donald. Interment in St Joseph's cemetery.
The Parent Teachers Association will meet in Room 9 of the local institution on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Officers say the session is the most important of the year and will address problems to be settled before the end of the present season. All are urged to attend.
Skaggs plans two large Hayward outlets with a new store on B street adjoining Madsen and another on West of Castro near EB street. The B street store will continue as offire and the new one west of Castro opens to boost activity in the B and Watkins street area.
The notice states the meeting will occur this year with the next session set for the second Monday in January.
