The Phoebe Hearst council PTA held a Tuesday gathering at Trinity Episcopal to plan a February 2 open forum. The Hayward area War Memorial Committee held its second meeting to advance plans for a memorial site. A blueprint outlined a 22 acre area with a regulation baseball field, bleachers, three softball fields, five tennis courts, a field house, children's apparatus, picnic area, archery range, horseshoe courts, a multi use hard surfaced area, and a quarter mile track with a football field. Meetings will be held every Tuesday at the Green Shutter hotel for interested attendees.
United Press reports GM and CIO Auto Workers halted a meeting by mutual agreement. UAW says Chrysler talks collapsed, with Reuther en route to an unannounced location. CIO mobilizes to counter reconversion labor disputes amid a broad labor agenda including AFL actions and a California CIO convention.
Six people were injured in a series of minor accidents reported yesterday. Onesine Luevane, 54, fractured a leg when he stopped behind another car on Cand Castro gheats. Dwight Hill, 16, of 2095 Niles road, said he could not avoid the pedestrian. Alphonse Tannicelli, 28, and June Tannivelli, 28, of 482 Rockaway lane, suffered lacerations when their car hit a PG&E pole. Two sailors from Camp Shoe maker, Stanley Wyawonyaki, 20, and Francis B.K. Amber, 14, were slightly injured after a car struck them on the road. Lawrence Blanchard, 35, of 1124 Laguna street, San Francisco, drove the car involved at the gunp entrance.
Two members of the Juvenile Rocks and Minerals club uncovered bones of extinct mammals near Tivington on Saturday. Bob Seaver found a complete leg bone of an ancient mammoth while Lester Kent Jr. removed an molar from the jaw of a primitive horse. Several complete plates from the shell of a fossil were also found and Kent Jr. is preparing them for exhibition.
California poultry producers warn the egg shortage will persist for at least three weeks. Causes cited include lower production, fewer young birds, and past export demands. They expect eggs to rise after January 1 and in spring, though not as high as 1944.
An American Legion Auxiliary breakfast honors Jane Lee KPO commentator. Her Woman's Magazine of the Air program will be broadcast from the Veterans Memorial building in Hayward Friday at 9 50 am. Public breakfast reservations with Mrs Francis Shannon at Hayward 135. Auxiliary members meet tomorrow to finalize plans with Ethel MacDougal and Cora Pressly named as Kitchen chairpersons.
