Hayward man pleads to manslaughter in bridge death
Louis Reyes, 21, of Hayward, was sentenced by Judge George H. Buck in Redwood City to one to 10 years for the killing of George Bassett, a bridge construction worker. Reyes reportedly hit Bassett with a scantling after racial taunts over his Porto Rican origin led to a fatal skull fracture. Reyes resided on Winton Road with his wife and his father’s family.

Widger Car Stolen From Main Street Parking Lot

Soldiers Deny Auto Theft In California Case
Paul Williams and Thomas Dow, both soldiers at Fort McDowell, pleaded not guilty in a justice court to alleged theft of the Paradero car and another vehicle in Oakland. They were held for Superior Court in bail of 1000 dollars, after being arrested in Los Angeles and brought to Hayward. In a separate Monday hearing John Vegas pleaded not guilty to petty theft and was held on a 1000 dollar bench warrant pending next Monday.

Hayward high loses the North Coast title bid 6 to 0 to Vallejo high after a stubborn defensive effort. Frank Baldwin Dies in Auto Wreck
Frank Baldwin died from injuries after a collision Thursday night at Footbhe boulevard and Castro Valley. He sustained a neck fracture and arm injury as paralysis followed. he died at Highland hospital Saturday night. The car was owned by Mrs J L Waser of Daly City. Funeral arrangements pending. body at Grant D Miller mortuary. An inquest will be held by Coroner Milkner. Baldwin worked at Dohner & Galbraith auto agency. His wife Minnie Baldwin has left home and is staying with O Stanley in San Leandro. He was well known here and had many friends who regret his death.
